Commercial & Events Assistant

We are looking for a Commercial & Events Assistant to join the team at Handel & Hendrix in London. Reporting to our Commercial & Marketing Manager, this role will help to manage our gift shop (both on the premises and online), manage and market our venue hire strategy, and provide ideas and support for our special events series.

As the Commercial & Events Assistant you will be creative, independent and have a strong eye for income generation. You will be confident coordinating our events including Friday Lates, Private Views & external concerts, as well as looking for ways to make them even better.

Job Description

  • Job Title: Commercial & Events Assistant
  • Status: Permanent
  • Salary: £23,000 (pro rata)
  • Reporting to: Commercial & Marketing Manager
  • Hours: 32 hours per week with a 1 hour paid lunch break
  • Annual Leave: 20 days plus bank holidays

Duties & Responsibilities:

Shop Management

  • Managing the in-house shop – including budgeting, product purchasing, presentation and financial reporting
  • Developing, administering and providing marketing support for the online shop
  • Working regularly shifts at our shop – setting the standards for the rest of the team and providing excellent day-to-day customer service

Event Coordination

  • Developing and managing the Venue Hire programme
  • Managing private guided tour bookings
  • Assisting the Commercial & Marketing Manager with planning and managing special events

General Operational Responsibilities

  • House key holder
  • Being on a staff rota for cashing up and locking up
  • Working evenings and weekend when necessary

Person Specification

Essential Skills

  • A creative person with a lively interest in the activities of Handel & Hendrix in London
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work to deadlines
  • Able to work independently and with initiative
  • Experience of budget management
  • The ability to not only meet, but exceed customer expectations
  • Previous experience working in Events

Desirable

  • Knowledge or appreciation of music and the arts
  • Keen interest in history and heritage
  • A degree in a relevant field
  • Experience in a retail or customer service role

Internships

Museum Events Internship

Role: Museum Events Intern
Status: Voluntary four month internship, 2 days a week, unpaid.
Reporting to: Front of House Manager and Commercial & Marketing Manager
Hours: 14 hours per week (including 1 hour lunch break), Monday-Saturday (flexible)

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Invigilating the historic rooms of 25 and 23 Brook Street
  • Manning the reception box office and gift shop till, using Spektrix and EPOS till systems
  • Assisting Front of House staff with administrative tasks
  • Supporting the set-up, de-rig and administration of events
  • Collating and recording events feedback
  • Maintaining stocks of all current leaflets and brochures around the museum
  • Sourcing original photo content for our social media channels
  • Daily research of news stories relevant to us
  • Assisting other members of staff with office tasks when required

 

Collection and Facilities Internship

Role: Collection and Facilities Intern
Status: Voluntary four-month internship, 2 days a week, unpaid.
Reporting to: Front of House Manager and Deputy Director
Hours: 14 hours per week (including 1-hour lunch break), Monday-Saturday (flexible)

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Invigilating the historic rooms of 25 and 23 Brook Street
  • Manning the reception box office and gift shop tills, using Spektrix and EPOS till systems
  • Assisting Front of House staff with administrative tasks
  • Assisting with daily checks of the buildings and presentation of the historic rooms
  • Working with the Deputy Director on the storage, documentation, care and conservation of our collection
  • Assisting with facilities tasks when required
  • Assisting other members of staff with office tasks when required

 

These internships will be based within the staff team at Handel & Hendrix in London; a historic house comprising the former home of George Frideric Handel at 25 Brook Street, and the neighbouring flat in which Jimi Hendrix lived at 23 Brook Street.  The successful candidate will be an individual with an interest in how a small historic house operates, with an emphasis on events and day-to-day Front of House management. This internship will cover a wide array of museum tasks, ranging from customer service and daily operations to marketing and events support.

Please note that this internship is voluntary and thus unpaid. Handel & Hendrix in London offer travel reimbursement within London up to £6 per day.

Terms and Conditions

  • This internship is voluntary and unpaid. Handel & Hendrix in London offer travel reimbursement within London up to £6 per day
  • Applicants must be over the age of 18
  • Applicants must be able to commit to the full four month internship from mid-August 2019 (date TBC)
  • The internship will consist of 14 hours per week over two days. The days of work per week will be discussed and agreed with your line managers
