Learning & Participation Officer

Job Description

Handel & Hendrix in London is looking for a creative and dynamic individual to join their Creative Team as Learning & Participation Officer. Drawing from the juxtaposed worlds of George Frideric Handel and Jimi Hendrix, this role is exciting, varied and full of incredible opportunities.

Job Title: Learning & Participation Officer

Status: Fixed term, 1 year

Salary: £20,000 – £25,000

Reporting to: Head of Learning

Hours: 42.5 hours per week with a 1 hour paid lunch break

Annual Leave: 25 days plus bank holidays

Learning Programme

  • Administration of school bookings and enquiries
  • Development of school programme content and resources
  • Responsibility for delivery of school programme
  • Administration and facilitation of restricted-funding learning projects
  • Maintaining and building long-term relationship with schools and adult learning groups
  • Assist in the continuing application of the HLF Activity Plan
  • Development of family learning resources and activities
  • Developing and facilitating projects with external organisations such as Wigmore Hall, London Handel Festival and Eastside Community Heritage
  • Administration and contribution to the Visually Impaired Programme
  • Evaluation of activities

Events Programme

  • Administration of concert proposals, bookings and programming
  • Administration of rehearsal bookings and management
  • Administration and development of New Artist Programme
  • Event set-up and set-down
  • Event supervision and evaluation
  • Development and production of event resources (i.e programmes, hand-outs and events brochures)


  • Management and facilitation of Creative Team Internships


  • House key holder
  • Cashing up and locking up the facilities when necessary

Person Specification

  • Undergraduate Degree in a relevant area of study
  • Experience in teaching/working with children and disabilities
  • Experience as a musician or working with musicians
  • Good knowledge of National Curriculum
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Motivated with an ability to engage others
  • Ability to work individually and in a team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Terms and Conditions

Basic hours are 9.30am to 6pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 11.30pm to 8pm Thursday (42.5 hours per week including an hour lunch break each day). Additional hours may be required as necessitated by the needs of the business for which time off in lieu will be granted. Flexibility is required as some weekend, public holiday and evening work will be required in conjunction with the learning and events schedule. The annual leave allowance is 25 working days plus bank holidays during a complete year. There is a 2 month probation period.
