Post 56: Hendrix is everywhere
Clearly, endless posts about Hendrix being everywhere are dull – but the fact of the matter is that he is. So with apologies but just a quick up date on how on trend Handel House is at the moment!
There was an article in the local London newspaper, the Metro, the other week about Miki Slingsby’s widow issuing previously unseen photos of Hendrix. During the early days of Handel House I understand that Miki had been a very generous supporter of the museum and kindly allowed one of his photos to be used as promotional image and a postcard for an exhibition. It is great to see other images being released as well. The Evening Standard Magazine had an interview with Kathy Etchingham recently about the way she and Jimi were depicted in the film ‘All is By My Side’. And as you can see they used a fantastic image of them both at their Brook Street Flat. And on Wednesday last week an unlikely pairing took place: both the routemaster and the Fender Stratocaster celebrated their 60th anniversary together. It is an indirect link with Hendrix but we know that the Stratocaster was Jimi’s preferred instrument and I like the idea of him hopping on and off a routemaster around town.
Of course the fact of the matter is that we (should I say “I” here – most of the team probably are pretty cool!) are not really trendy at all just lucky enough to be able to celebrate the Hendrix zietgist along with everyone else.
