House Music
23 November 2014 | Handel House
The work is based on the Renaissance principle of Augenmusik, where art was used to illuminate notated music. The score is based on the exterior of Handel House with windows cut through the paper. Players are to perform what they see on the page including the material revealed beneath by the windows. The libretto marks the progress of a career, or life, across four movements: beginning as an outsider looking in to the establishment; then claiming the safer space within; and finally settling upstairs to sleep, and dream of legacy.
En Garde
24 October 2013 | Handel House
A movement from The Eve of Battle. This oratorio began in 2012 as the Evolution of Eve, to explore the links across creation stories. The concept itself has evolved, becoming a radio drama for Swedish national radio, and now a show of duels for Handel House. This argumentative structure is fundamental to the original exploration – to embrace, and challenge diverse opinion. The theme of creation is, after all, fairly universal, and transcends culture and gender. The performance hosts the première of En Garde – a duel of Augenmusik commissioned by Handel House featuring Manu Delago (hang) and Satoko Doi-Luck (harpsichord).
