Mafalda Ramos (flute)

Mafalda Ramos is a Portuguese Historical Flautist based in London.
An alumna of the Royal College of Music, she graduated their BMus(Hons) degree with a First Class in 2016 and their MMus with a Distinction in 2018. There she studied Historical Flutes with Rachel Brown and Lisa Beznosiuk and the Recorder with Ashley Solomon and María Martinez Ayerza.
She is very thankful to have also learnt from Olavo Barros, Wilbert Hazelzet, Christophe Rousset, Adrien Butterfield, Jane Chapman and Carla Rees, amongst other prominent musicians of the Flute and Historical Performance scene.
Mafalda’s repertoire ranges from the late 17th century to well into the 19th. She is especially interested in the music-making in the home of the 18th century France and she is fascinated by the connection of music, dance and text, which she researches extensively.
She collaborates regularly with Aidan Phillips (Harpsichord), Luke Challinor (Viola da Gamba) and Abel Balazs (Historical Violin). Past highlights from Mafalda’s career include playing with the London Handel Orchestra, The Brook Street Band and as a soloist with the Casa da Musica Baroque Orchestra (Laurence Cummings) and the RCM Baroque Ensemble.
Mafalda is thankful to Kyra and Douglas Downie, the Wolfson Foundation, Kirby Laing, Barry Shaw, the St. Marylebone Educational Foundation and Maria Pereira da Silva for supporting her career.
