English Touring Opera return to Hackney Empire with a season of fascinating baroque music and opera by Handel, Purcell, Carissimi and Gesualdo.

Radamisto was one of Handel’s most appreciated operas, not least for its famous aria “Ombra cara”, which stunned audiences. It tells a dramatic story of a royal family in old Armenia, locked in mortal conflict. This is a moving and accessible piece of music theatre for anyone wanting to try opera.

Our other evening in the theatre is a rare concoction of 17th-century music and opera, featuring works by Purcell, Carissimi and Gesualdo. Best known is Dido and Aeneas: “Remember me!” the abandoned Dido calls, and in Henry Purcell’s melody she will be remembered forever.
