Our new Jimi Hendrix 50th Anniversary T-Shirt has arrived
To commemorate the recent 50th anniversary of the untimely death of Jimi Hendrix, we’ve worked with Manchester-based artist Molly Pilkington to create an original piece of Hendrix-inspired artwork.
“As an illustrator, my practice focuses on the small details that are often overlooked. I find that I naturally gravitate towards producing work inspired by archives and subjects that celebrate parts of our history. Producing a design inspired by Jimi Hendrix was the ideal project to do this and allowed me to celebrate a musician who’s still so prevalent in today’s music. The song Voodoo Child and the imagery it creates really influenced my choice in presenting the image of Hendrix in a Tarot Card style. Imagery and colours of nature along with the vibrant colours often involved in Hendrix’s performances were at the forefront of my design.” Molly Pilkington
Created in collaboration with ethical fashion brand Rapanui, this T shirt uses the new Tarot-inspired Hendrix image as its central design. We are very excited to be able to work with a company that is as strongly committed to sustainable fashion as Rapanui. Their ethical credentials, combined with the fact that their factory is based on the Isle of Wight – just a few miles from the site of Jimi’s legendary Isle of Wight Festival performance – meant that they were the perfect partners for this project.
This T-Shirt is the first in what will be a range of items and these can be purchased through our online shop or from the gift shop at the house on the days we are open to public.
