Post 104: Wow
I am speechless ….well almost. This has been a very special week as the scaffold at the back of the building was completely removed and we had the first proper view of the back of Handel House and the new learning studio, lift shaft and additional loos. I am overwhelmed, it is more beautiful and in keeping than I could have ever imagined. Of course it is not going to win any prizes for stretching architectural language but that wasn’t really the brief. We needed a practical, usable space that it would be possible to build within Westminster’s planning regulations. I think we have achieved that with bells on.
The detail and workmanship are remarkable. The space created inside is incredible and it is now even clearer what a huge benefit for schools, community groups, activities and events it will be . There is still some fitting out to finish, the wood flooring is being installed as I type. So it will be a while before the grand opening.
Whilst it hasn’t been the easiest journey to get to this point, it is true when people say that the pain is quickly and completely forgotten. So yes Kevin McCloud I would do it all again. Which is probably just as well because of course we aren’t quite there yet; we still need to get Jimi into the building – bring it on!
