Post 2: Neighbours

The back of Handel House, and currently our main museum entrance, is located on a rather special courtyard called Lancashire Court. An intimate charming cobbled yard which is now home to a variety of people and businesses. Whilst we each have different requirements we all rub along pretty well. There are some high end retailers, excellent restaurants, wonderful residential neighbours of some 40 years (unfortunately not quite overlapping with our man), a couple of quirky businesses and of course the home of an 18th century composer with a bit of 1960s rock hero on the side. It makes for an amusing combination. We are all looked after by the amazing Adolfo who ensures that the place is clean and tidy and the bins don’t overflow. It is amazing how much rubbish we all generate. Today I had a meeting with our immediate downstairs neighbour. They were delightful and could not have been more supportive of our plans. Clearly we are going to cause them some inconvenience but during the meeting they established their concerns and worries and we left determined to try and accommodate them as best as we possibly can. A building project in a tight space is going to be difficult for everyone but if we can all keep talking and ensuring we all know the plan and express our concerns I am certain we can make it work. Indeed I have high hopes of developing an enthusiastic community courtyard spirit and that it pulls us all together more coherently as a neighbourly group. By the way it turns out that Handel House smells quite so amazing because the shop downstairs spritz all their gift bags so wonderful smells emanate all day long and I thought the Handel House team had a particularly good taste in perfume.
