The Handel House companion guidebook - guessing the Hendrix one might look a little different

The Handel House companion guidebook – guessing the Hendrix one might look a little different

The sun is still shining and there is yet more good news to share. One element of this amazing adventure that I hadn’t quite turned my attention to was the fact that to accompany the Hendrix exhibition and his authentically refurbished bedroom we will need some kind of guidebook. We currently have a wonderful companion guidebook for Handel House which was written largely by my predecessor with contributions from some Handel scholars. Now I know that my Hendrix learning curve is on the up but I couldn’t begin to write a book about him or his life here at 23 Brook Street. Not least I have simply no idea how in the midst of setting up the museum in 2001 the then Director also rustled up the guidebook.

So imagine my complete joy and amazement when, following one of the focus groups that we ran to review and comment on our Hendrix plans one of the participants, a lecturer in cultural studies and popular music no less, actually offered to write the guidebook on a voluntary basis. Not only did he offer to do this he inveigled a good friend of his to join him on the journey – so Christian and Sheila you are awesome! Without you to take on this responsibility we probably would have only had time to create a photocopied flyer! And now we will have a properly thought through and researched short book. How wonderful and yet another reflection of how brilliantly generous and supportive Hendrix enthusiasts, fans and collectors are (see post 7). Thank you. They are already hard at the research check out this link – you too can contribute your tale and memory.
