Efficient asbestos investigations

So asbestos seems to be one of those words that causes people to look concerned and shake their heads with a serious look. It was therefore with some apprehension that I arranged the asbestos investigation. However it transpired that it was not nearly as terrifying as expected. I had secretly hoped that all my colleagues would be beavering away at their desks in white suits and face masks – and had imagined some amusing photos for the blog but alas it was not to be. Two charming gentlemen conducted their work with the mininmum of fuss. As expected with a building that underwent work when it was established as a museum in 2001, it was unlikely that asbestos was going to be a problem and it seemed that was the case. Which of course was a relief all around. However one very jolly and useful coincidence arose when the asbestos chap, a serious Hendrix fan, told us about an amplifier he has in his loft that is the same as one Hendrix is likely to have owned or at least used. Brilliantly he has said we may borrow it to display in Jimi’s recreated bedroom. What a star and how generous. It is great to have come across a Leak 70s stereo amplifier (I am sure some of you know what that is) there is a photo of Jimi turning the knob of such a model. The exhibition designers will be thrilled too, not least because of the challenging budget they have to work within.
