Learn to play like Hendrix
Nigel is a hugely experienced music teacher and has taught thousands of students over the last 15 years, with a particular passion for Jimi Hendrix’s style and technique.
Ever dreamed of playing guitar like Jimi Hendrix? How about playing guitar in Hendrix’s former home.
Our Guitar Workshops are a great chance to learn some new licks in a friendly environment with other guitar players. These 1-hour sessions are an open forum for all guitarists, from absolute beginners to old pros. All you need to do is bring your guitar.
As our resident guitar teacher Nigel Jones puts it:
“These Guitar Workshops are an amazing way to spend an hour of your life. It doesn’t matter if you’re an advanced player or a beginner. It’s a relaxed environment with no egos. A chance to spend time learning in this inspirational location. What guitar player wouldn’t want to do this?”
This season each month’s workshops will be themed around a specific part of Hendrix’s style or technique:
- September 7: Playing the changes – this take a look at how to ‘play the changes’. In a nutshell, this means moving your lead lines’ tonal centre with each chord change.
- October 5: Mixing it up – this session will look at mixing major and minor pentatonic scales over a 7th chord and how to get the best blues tones from doing this.
- November 2: Full majors and minors – look at using the full scales in improvisation. How to keep the blues elements while adding some extra spice into your lead lines.
- December 7: Lord of the riff! – let’s look at what makes a good riff or hook. This session will bridge the gap between knowing some chords and scales and to use that knowledge to build a riff.
