Pleasure and Pain

Jane Wilkinson (soprano) and Anne Marshall (harpsichord) explore works from operas and oratorios by Purcell, Bach and Handel, displaying the depth of emotions of the great baroque heroines
Description
This concert is now sold out
The programme comprises works from operas and oratorios by Purcell, Bach and Handel. They display the depths of despair and the heady euphoria of the great Baroque heroines. Handel in particular pushes the singer to technical and emotional extremes to create such formidable characters. Jane Wilkinson (soprano) and Anne Marshall (harpsichord) will create a snapshot into the lives of these strong women. The sumptuous collection of music and arias take us through a journey of the human psyche. The programme will include JS Bach’s French Suite No.2 in C minor which follows the theme of the concert with the emotional and haunting opening Allemande in the minor key, along with the dancing, joyful Minuet.
Jane and Anne have been performing together for over 7 years. They met as students at the Royal College of Music and have been performing together all over the UK and South Africa since then. They are now sought-after performers and make a unique female duo.
