Guitar Skill- Building
3rd - 4th August
During these sessions you will explore the techniques and equipment that enabled Jimi Hendrix to create his distinctive sound, experimenting with a range of guitars, amps, and pedals. You’ll also learn how to play in his unique blues rock style, exploring use of the pentatonic, Jimi’s chord bank and classic blues tones. Each day will finish with a jam session, incorporating your new elements of style and technique into performance.

5th-6th August
What makes a song truly stand out? In this series of sessions, you'll explore the key elements that come together to create a great song and will experiment with these components when developing your own songwriting ideas. Whether you're already writing songs or just beginning to tap into your creative instincts, this is a chance to work with an industry expert to explore new ideas and try things out with other young musicians.
Performing and recording
7th August
A final day for all participants to come together and share new songs and ideas from the week. Each young person will have the opportunity to professionally record a song or piece that they have worked on during the week with a music producer.
FAQs
Who is the Hendrix Summer School aimed at?
This year our summer school is aimed at guitarists and singer songwriters who are keen to develop new skills and meet and play with like-minded musicians. We are especially keen to encourage singers that aren’t necessarily guitarists or who haven’t tried songwriting before.
How old do you need to be in order to take part?
The summer school is aimed at musicians aged 12- 18. However you can get in touch with us at [email protected] if you have any further questions, or would like to book in a young person who is just outside of that age range.
How much experience do you need in order to take part?
For days 1&2 (guitar skill-building), we recommend a level of at least Grade 3 and some experience of playing with others. For days 3&4 you don’t need any prior experience – just an interest and enthusiasm for songwriting!
How long are the course days?
The days begin at 10.00 and finish at 15.30 with a break for lunch at 13.00. The jam sessions will take place at 15.15, where family and friends are welcome to attend.
Where does the Hendrix Summer School take place?
The Summer School will take place in Handel Hendrix House: you can find us at 25 Brook Street W1K4HB. Our nearest tube stations are Bond Street Station (5 minute walk) and Oxford Circus (5 minute walk) and Oxford Street is serviced by many bus routes.
When and where can I pay?
Click on the button that says ‘Book’ on the Summer School Homepage. This will take you through to a payments page, where you can select Days 1&2, Days 3&4 or the entire summer school.
Is lunch provided for the participants?
Lunch is not provided for participants, but there are plenty of places to buy lunch in the surrounding area, or you are welcome to bring a packed lunch.
What should I bring?
As well as your instrument and suitable clothing and footwear for playing all day, we suggest you bring a flask or plastic bottle for water. You are welcome to bring a handheld recording device if you wish to record some sessions, and a notebook and pen will be useful for anything you would want to jot down.
