Known for his ‘fantastic touch and élan’ (Gramophone) harpsichordist Steven Devine will partner with Conor Gricmanis, a rising star of the baroque violin, to present sonatas by the pioneering composer Marco Uccellini (d.1680).

Steven Devine combines a career as a conductor and director of orchestral, choral and opera repertoire with that of a solo harpsichordist and fortepianist. He is Conductor and Artistic Advisor of The English Haydn Festival; Music Director of New Chamber Opera, Oxford and Director of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment’s “Bach the Universe & Everything” series.

On the concert platform he has directed Purcell, Blow, Bach, Handel and Mozart with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment; Bach Easter Oratorio with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales; Haydn, Handel, CPE Bach, JC Bach, Ditterdorf and Viotti with the English Haydn Orchestra; Handel, Vivaldi and Porpora with Ann Hallenberg and Trondheim Barokk; Bach Christmas Oratorio with the Norwegian Wind Ensemble; Handel Solomon with Victoria Baroque Players, British Columbia and Handel Music for the Royal Fireworks with Arion Baroque Ensemble, Montreal; He has also directed programmes with the Academy of Ancient Music, Academie d’Ambronay, the Mozart Festival Orchestra and St Paul’s Chamber Orchestra.

Conor Gricmanis

Conor Gricmanis is a young and pioneering Baroque Violinist who combines his passions for historical performance and composition to explore never-ending palettes of performance style, colour, and flair. Raised in a farming background in rural Shropshire, England, Conor graduated as a Christopher Hogwood Scholar in 2020 receiving a Master’s degree in Historical Violin at the Royal College of Music with professor, soloist, and leader of the Academy of ancient Music, Bojan Čićič.

Conor has performed around the world, including some of the finest venues, such as Wigmore Hall, Brugge Concertgebouw, and The Royal Chapel of Versailles, De Singel, and a solo tour through the USA. In Conor’s time at the Royal College of Music, he was selected as violinist to perform a twelve concert series at Buckingham Palace, and also as leader and soloist of the Royal College of Music’s Baroque Orchestra for concerts both in Oxford and London.
