Moira Mack

Moira Mack is a musician by choice, a songwriter by therapeutic necessity, an artist by self-aggrandizement, and a producer because of an absolute inability to surrender control. Though she’s incurably independent, her sound wears its influences proudly. Her jazz-inflected soul songs are the result of an eclectic musical education, drawing from the likes of Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald, Leon Bridges, and Sigur Rós.

Her origin story? An accident, but her parents promise her that it was a happy surprise. She spent the following decades making her way from Massachusetts to Wisconsin before landing in Los Angeles. In the last few years you might’ve heard her voice on the latest Bastille album, seen her featured on the popular YouTube channel Scary Pockets, or caught her on stages around the world opening for Wyclef Jean or Bastille.

Her most recent single, “She Will,” was born from grief and while it begins with a lyric-forward folk feel similar to that of Lana Del Rey and Kacey Musgraves, the song finishes with a soulful resilience reminiscent of Joy Oladokun or Charlotte Day Wilson. It carries the weight of the iconic protest songs from the 60’s along with the lyrical eloquence of a modern singer-songwriter like Amy Allen. Moira Mack debuted the song in June with an all-female ensemble to a reverent audience in a packed church at London’s first SXSW. The song is the second single from her upcoming EP, “Money and Cars.”
