Handel & Hendrix in London | Music for the Royal Fireworks Project

Music for the Royal Fireworks Project

On the first of October we launched our new learning programme in an exciting event that involved over 100 school children, students from the Royal Academy of Music and a surprise visit from Katherine Jenkins OBE!

To celebrate opening up our doors to schools and educational groups again, young musicians from schools in London, Kent and Surrey visited the museum to perform Handel’s Music for The Royal Fireworks. This recreated Handel’s original band of over a hundred musicians which rehearsed in the house 275 years ago this year. The students were led by the brilliant conductor Ollie Mansfield and four fellows from the Royal Academy of Music. We were also lucky enough to be paid a visit by British mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins at the end of the morning who gave the children some brilliant advice about being a professional musician.

We finished the day with a celebratory performance in St George’s Hanover Square where schools showcased their own pieces and played the Fireworks music together for a final time. It was a brilliant way to start the Autumn term – if you weren’t there with us, have a look at the video (coming soon!) to see what the students got up to…
